Suzuki Strings

The Suzuki approach is a unique philosophy of education developed over forty years ago by Japanese violinist Shinichi Suzuki.

Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, born in 1898,  was a violinist, educator, philosopher, and humanitarian.  He developed his method, called Talent Education in post WWII Japan.  Suzuki based his approach, often called the "mother -tongue method", on the belief that "music is not an inborn talent, but an ability which can be developed.  Any child who is properly trained can develop musical ability, just as all children develp the ability to speak their mother tongue.  The potential of every child is unlimited."

Dr. Suzuki's goal was not simply to develop professional musicians, but to nurture loving human beings and help develop each child's character through the study of music.

At Joyful Sounds, we offer Suzuki instruction in violin, viola and cello.  All the teachers have been trained in the Suzuki method, and closely adhere to the philosophy.  We happily invite potential families to come and observe both private and group classes.
